A Minute with Zombie Nation

Posted on 05 November 2009 by admin

We got a chance to speak to Zombie Nation Halloween night.

zombie nation

He was scheduled to perform at the massive Hard Haunted Mansion event in Los Angeles. We had a couple questions lined up which the curious Zombie Nation fan would find interesting, especially questions about his side project tag-team with Tiga known as ZZT. ZZT has brought us such tracks Lower State of Consciousness (which Justice has remixed), as well as the hugely popular The Worm.

levon & zombie nation

One big mystery has always been history behind the ZZT name. As disappointing as it may sound, there’s no funky story behind it. ZZT is simply a combination of the first letters Z of Zombie Nation and T of Tiga. The extra Z is simply there because it sounds good, and doesn’t really stand for anything…. but we still dig the name.

Second, we asked about upcoming tracks. Tiga has been pushing for a ZZT LP sometime in the near future for the Turbo label. In the meantime though, they’ve still been working on new tracks. As a matter of fact, they have two tracks which were nearly completed last week. Around the time that this is published, Zombie Nation and Tiga should be in Montreal mastering the two new ZZT tracks.

Zombie Nation dropped the new tracks this Halloween night. The tracks are not yet completed, but the general gist of it can be seen in the video. Click it below.

Photos from TIGA and James Murphy

Posted on 31 May 2009 by shaunt

The photos are finally up…

HERE is the review of the evening

So about the night:
During James Murphy’s set, if you closed your eyes, you’d think you’re at a full-on discotheque (of course, i’m to young to really know what that means… but take my word for it [not that it matters]).
But the night really didn’
t climax till Tiga blasted everyone into another mindimension dropping some of his new shit, some tracks for sexor and all kinds of other electro[clash] stuff. To say the least, it was the best CONTROL in a while.

Missed Tiga at CONTROL? He will be at HARD SUMMER FESTIVAL this August 8th. In other news, James Murphy will be making a special guest appearance at the Verdugo Bar in Glassell Park tonight.

CLICK IT or any of the photos above to see the album. High-res photos are found on our FLICKR. Taken May 29th 2009 at the Avalon in Hollywood, CA.

(Non)Photos from TIGA at CONTROL

Posted on 30 May 2009 by shaunt

We’re back, and i’m here typing away when I really could be (should be) asleep by now…

We arrived at CONTROL early enough to see no more than a handful of people on the dancefloor, but by the end of Destructo’s opening set the Avalon began to live up to its expectation of being a danceclub.

Last night’s CONTROL was one of the best yet.

Question: What could be better than some of the world’s best electronic producers operating the decks within a lit ultra-massive ghettoblaster up on stage?
I’ll tell you: Seeing some of the world’s best electronic producers operating the decks within a lit ultra-massive ghettoblaster up on stage WITH access to free cocktails from Bacardi.

So about the night:
During James Murphy’s set, if you closed your eyes, you’d think you’re at a full-on discotheque (of course, i’m to young to really know what that means… but take my word for it [not that it matters]).
But the night really didn’t climax till Tiga blasted everyone into another mindimension dropping some of his new shit, some tracks for sexor and all kinds of other electro[clash] stuff. To say the least, it was the best CONTROL in a while.

This post wouldn’t be complete without some electronic industry gossip, right? Before his set, I had a chance to speak to Tiga about the future of ZZT (for those of you who don’t know, ZZT is the name of the EPIC collaboration between Tiga and Zombie Nation which has produced such tracks as Lower State of Consciousness and The Worm). Tiga hinted at the possibility of a full-on ZZT album within the not-so-distant future. Also, we asked about Russian producer [as well as label-mate] Proxy and whether he’d ever come to play in the U.S.. From what we knew, Proxy was having some visa issues, but Tiga assured us that this is [would get] resolved and that we’d soon probably get a chance to see a Proxy DJ set here in the States.
Bottom line, Tiga killed it, as the crowd kept going strong until 3AM (European readers: this is actually LATE for L.A.).

Blah blah blah blahblah… The fact of the matter is, you don’t want to read this. You want your photos. Face it. In reality, you’re probably on this site wondering whether or not you look intoxicated in the photos the kid and I took of you last night. I can’t help you with that…. yet.
Photos tomorrow.
GOOD NIGHT.

Update: (5/31) Photos are now up HERE…

ZZT - The Worm (Erol Alkan’s Re-Work) Teaser

Posted on 02 October 2008 by shaunt

Straight out of Quebec, Turbo Recordings has posted on their myspace a teaser of the new track from ZZT. The Worm by Tiga and Zombie Nation–collectively known as ZZT– will be released on the label soon and is one of the most sought after tracks in the scene. A few weeks ago we had posted a live bootleg of the Erol Alkan remix of Worm, as dropped by 2ManyDJs in a live set. That bootleg leak only included a small portion of the actual track. This teaser is about a minute and a half in length, and is more reflective of the release version of the anticipated glitchy-dancey soundpiece. But let me tell you this: the track is EPIC. It will definitely get a crowd jumping and screaming. I’d consider it a sin to drop it at anything other than full throttle.

Sorry, it’s not the complete track. We don’t have it. If we did, we’d show you; [But if we showed you, we'd have to kill you...] For now, though, the one-minute-21-second-long low-bitrate clip should do you justice. After all, you can’t get it anywhere else right now. Okay. Enough of the hype… Download the goddamn track already.

Expect TURBO 058 to be released soon. [whatever that means...]

New ZZT + The Worm Bootleg

Posted on 02 September 2008 by shaunt

ZZT is a collaboration between Tiga and Zombie Nation. The 12″ Lower State of Consciousness record on Tiga’s Turbo Recordings is the group’s only release, and features the Munich version of the track, as well a remix by Justice.

In the most recent issue of MixMag, Erol Alkan had listed a track titled The Worm by ZZT as one of his top tracks of the month. Although in the list, there has been quite a bit of confusion about this mysterious track, as it had never been heard…

2ManyDJs (AKA Soulwax) dropped the track at the Creamfields Music Festival last week. Originally an unknown track in the set list, the web community has identified it as ZZT - The Worm. We have ripped it from the set and posted it below for your listening pleasure. The Worm will probably be released on Turbo Recordings later this year..

In addition, Erol Alkan has just announced today that he will be doing a remix of the track.

Update: 9/3

The ZZT remix I have made is the one which features on the 2manydjs/Creamfields/radio 1 mix. I should point out that its more of a re-edit and re-mix of the elements more then a full blown REMIX, REWORK or REANIMATION. I love the original and just wanted to make it longer, give it some extra little bits and get my missus and a friend to clap over the top.

Erol

Update: 9/15

Following the success of ‘Lower States Of Conciousness’, ZZT (aka Tiga and Zombie Nation) release ‘The Worm’, currently topping Erol’s dancefloor chart.

Erol provides the re/edit/mix/work (delete were applicable), taking much of the original, extending the groove and attuning it into more of a bass mangling monster then before.

Soon to be released on Tiga’s Turbo Records.

Update: 10/2

A clip of the Erol Alkan rework has been posted on the Turbo Recordings myspace page. We have an [updated] myspace rip of the track HERE
