“Last year the French invaded the West Coast for the inaugural OohLaLA Festival, leaving a wake of broken baguettes, overturned Peugeots, and Daft Punk helmets filled with brie. Not really.” — LA Weekly

Our favorite french zombie DJ-producer Kavinsky is back with new original material. Produced by Guy-Manuel of Daft Punk, Nightcall EP is going to be released on Air’s Record Makers label on March 15th. The track features the classic Kavinsky-synth feel and is reminiscent of the sound from Sebastian Tellier‘s recent Sexuality album–also produced by Guy-Man. Tracklist consists of four tracks including Nightcall, Pacific Coast Highway, and two remixes of the title track.
From the label’s website: The zombie is striking back ! After months of studio work on his forthcoming album, he & Record Makers have decided to release ‘Nightcall’ as an apéritif. ‘Nightcall’ is the first song Kavinsky provides vocals for, a duet you might say, featuring the zombie and his girlfriend, a.k.a. Lovefoxxx from CSS!
The song was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and mixed by SebastiAN. The remix of this song, by a mysterious Dustin Nguyen, is an outstanding pop song that everyone can enjoy.
On the other side, Kavinsky has produced the fantastic ‘Pacific Coast Highway’, in which we follow a ghostcar on the highway. The remix job is by French avant-garde producer Jackson. His epic 9 minute long version is unmissable. ’Nightcall’ is composed of 4 tracks, representing the sensual, epic and romantic French sound like never before.
We’ve got a low bitrate myspace rip of it for the listening curiosity.
Kavinsky’s not the only one with new material. Off the Ed Banger label, new signee Breakbot makes his release debut on the label with the fresh Baby I’m Yours EP. I gave it a listen and I definitely dig it.
Synthetic Sound describes it: Baby I’m Yours is Breakbot’s long-awaited debut EP on Ed Banger Records. In one word, Breakbot’s music could best be described as smooth. Combining disco and electo, the French musician crafts funky beats with retro vocal hooks. Without a doubt, Breakbot fits in perfectly with the rest of the Ed Banger crew, but he sure hasn’t lost his originality or characteristic sound. The EP features two singles: “Baby I’m Yours” with vocals by Irfane and “Make You Mine.” Also included are two fantastic remixes by Siriusmo and LaFunkMob.
From April 16-22, the Ed Rec Crüe will have their shirts and all their nic-naks on sale at the Barracuda on Melrose Ave. in Hollywood for a limited time only! The in-store event will be held on April 20th, with the entire Ed Banger entourage. Buy your shirts to sport and support the Ed Bangers at Coachella.
Buy a shirt and get on the guestlist for the Cinespace show featuring the all-stars SebastiAn, DJ Mehdi, & Busy P!
Also, those of you at Coachella this weekend can catch Busy P live in the Sahara on Sunday at 3PM…
Come join Belvedere 1X, BPM Magazine and many more for the 3rd annual Music Loves Fashion Coachella bash at the Riviera hotel in Palm Springs! Rented out for the Coachella weekend, Belevedere 1X is hosting a two night after party on Friday and Saturday night and 55DSL is hosting the Saturday pool party!!
Produced by Time Supper Club, Jeff Duke & Adam Frankel, they coordinated “a Coachella of their own”, booking over 40 artists to perform at the event, like SebastiAn, DJ Mehdi, Kavinsky, LA Riots and more! It’s going to be a wild weekend and we’re really stoked for this event.
There are a few hotel packages for the Riviera. Some include an open bar, complementary BBQ, and free shuttle service to Coachella Festival. To view the facebook event for more details, click here.
Kavinsky, everyone’s favorite french zombie DJ, recently released his Blazer EP on July 1st. The limited edition picture disk record includes his greatest hits like Testarossa Autodrive, Grand Canyon, and Wayfarer. The standout track on the record is 1986, which was originally released as a demo version on his 1986 EP back in 2007. The track features Kavinsky’s signature Night Rider-esque synthesized progressions which he is said to often blast in his red ferrari as he speeds down the streets of Paris by night.
If legend is to be believed, Kavinsky is the world’s best-known zombie DJ and musician. Others will tell you he’s the alias of Vincent Belorgey, protege of French beatmaster Mr. Oizo, friend and tourmate of Daft Punk and the Ed Banger crew. Whichever story you choose to believe, Kavinsky’s new EP for Fool’s Gold — his first domestic release — is a total no-brainer.
Updating vintage Moroder and Miami Vice sounds with a French touch, Blazer features three of the possibly undead producer’s finest cuts from his import releases — “Testarossa Autodrive(1),” “Dead Cruiser(2),” “Grand Canyon(3)” — and seals the deal with the exclusive unreleased gem “1986(4).” The whole thing is wrapped up in a spiffy Ferarri tire pic disc designed by (who else?) Dust La Rock, and is strictly limited to 1,000 copies.
