Halloween Night in Los Angeles

Posted on 23 October 2008 by shaunt

So Halloween is almost a week away. Still don’t have plans? We can help.

The good thing is that this Halloween there are plenty of choices of events to go to. We’re actually planning on going to not one, not two, but three places in the same night.

First off, the most recently announced event is an Ed Banger Halloween Party.

Sponsored by Nike, the Ed Bangers will be hosting a Halloween Kick-Off party at the Montalban Theater in Hollywood. This is the same theater that Soulwax will be screening their Part of the Weekend Never Dies on the 28th. The new Busy P AirForces will be unveiled at the event, and you will have an opportunity to meet the members of the Ed Rec Crue, while still outfitted in your Daft Punk knock-off Halloween costume. There’s no RSVP, so just show up. The event starts at 5PM at the Montalban.

——————————————————————

What to do next? Well, of course there’s Hard Haunted Mansion, but if you don’t have tickets to it, or if you intend on showing up late, you could always check out an event sponsored by LA Metromix.

The people who brought you DanceRight at La Cita bring you Drop-Dead Gorgeous Halloween at the Natural History Museum directly South of USC. Here you can catch DJ Sets from Treasure Fingers, Classixx, and our pick Holy Ghost. The best part of this event is that it is absolutely free for admission. Don’t want to fork out $60 for a Hard Ticket? This is your best bet. There is a catch, though, to admission: you simply need to RSVP. Easy, right? Open up your favorite email program or webmail site and send your confirmation over to metromix@danceright.com.

If you’re going to this event and staying there, enjoy yourself. But if not, you always have the option of walking over to Hard Fest going on within walking distance. A safe bet would be to pay couple bucks and parking over at the University of Southern California Parking Structure X on Figueroa. This parking structure is located right in between, and is walking distance, both the Metromix and Hard events. That being said, you can head north on Figueroa and find yourself at one of the most epic electronic events that Los Angeles has ever hosted.

——————————————————————

Meet Hard Haunted Mansion.

With a line-up featuring the biggest names in electronic music, I have no doubt that this event will be the highlight of the night. You will have an opportunity to catch the likes of Justice, Soulwax, SMD, Boys Noize, Crystal Castles, Crookers, and a few others…… all in the same night! If you haven’t bought your tickets for this yet, you should because they may sell out and/or reach capacity early. So get your costume, get your ass to the Shrine on Halloween night, and prepare for one of the biggest nights of electronic music ever to take place in the western hemisphere.

——————————————————————

But wait…. there’s more. Still not satisfied? Halloween is not just a night… it’s the whole weekend.
By the time you wake up the following morning hungover from Hard Fest, you have just enough time to get yourself and a few close companions in a car, and head east to the northbound Interstate 15. Follow the road for a couple hundred miles, and you will end up in Las Vegas where the party never ends. The Fabulous Festival is the biggest electronic show in Las Vegas history, where you can catch sets from  MSTRKRFT, Crystal Castles (again), DEADMAU5, HeartsRevolution, and [once again] the Ed Banger Crew featuring Busy P, DJ Mehdi, SebastiAn, SoMe and Mr Flash. Since Las Vegas is lenient with ordinances, curfews and whatnot, expect this event to go on until the wee hours.
We will be at all four events. And if these don’t satisfy you… I don’t know what else to say.

    New Justice Track – Planisphere

Posted on 06 September 2008 by shaunt

In July, we posted about a mix that Justice did for the runway of the Dior Homme collection.

Justice has done a new fifteen minute mix for the Dior Homme fashion show in Paris, just like Daft Punk did last summer for Louis Vuitton. On the 29th of June Justice dropped the brand new track to accompany the runway. The track features heavy synths and bass-lines, harpsichord progressions, and elements of Justice tracks that we all love.

The mix was revealed as a brand new composition by the duo exclusively for the show, and there was no evidence to support a record release of the mix. The track did inevitably leak to the web as a low quality bootleg copy, ripped directly from the video. Today, however, the original clean recording of the track leaked to the web, resurfacing as Planisphere.

We have a copy of the track here for your listening pleasure. Enjoy.

    Justice Cross Samples

Posted on 29 August 2008 by shaunt

Tenebre is a 1982 Italian horror thriller film written and directed by Dario Argento. The film stars Anthony Franciosa, John Saxon, and Daria Nicolodi. The film was released in Italy and throughout most of Europe without experiencing any reported censorship problems, but was classified, prosecuted, and banned as a “Video Nasty” in the United Kingdom. Its theatrical distribution in the United States was delayed until 1984, when it was released in a heavily censored version under the title Unsane. In its cut form, Tenebrae received a mostly negative critical reception, but the original, fully restored version later became widely available for reappraisal. It has been described by Maitland McDonagh as “the finest film that Argento has ever made.”

The title track of the soundtrack was sampled in Phantom by Justice. Listen to the track and note the similarity.

Saturday Night Fever is a 1977 film starring John Travolta as Tony Manero, a troubled Brooklyn youth whose weekend activities are dominated by visits to a local discothèque. While in the disco, Tony is the king, and the visits help him to temporarily forget the reality of his life: a dead-end job, clashes with his unsupportive and squabbling parents, racial tensions in the local community, and his associations with a gang of dead-beat friends. A huge commercial success, the movie significantly helped to popularize disco music around the world and made Travolta a household name. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, featuring disco songs by the Bee Gees, became the best selling soundtrack at that time and held the record until 1999.

On the soundtrack David Shire produced a disco track called Night On Disco Mountain, which was a disco rendition of composer Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain. This track was sampled in the track Stress on the Cross album. You can hear stress in the first few seconds of the track….

Justice = Keedz? New Track: Stand on the Word

Posted on 18 July 2008 by shaunt

Rumor has it that Justice has made a track under the alias Keedz

“Stand on the World” appears to be a follow up to their hugely successful single D.A.N.C.E… The track features the same Jackson 5 style kids’ vocals paired with a funky bassline. It samples There isn’t much information available on the web about this track, but it seems convincing. The official myspace page for Keedz has Justice and the Ed Bangers added as top friends. There also are pictures of Rubik’s Cubes on the page, which Gapard Auge also has on his own myspace page…
So is Keedz really Justice? Check out the track.. you be the judge…
I’ve also put up the rehearsal version of D.A.N.C.E. which was a bonus track on the japanese limited edition of

    Justice – D.A.N.C.E. (Rehearsal Version)
Update: Although there obviously appears to be a resemblance, Keedz is not Justice. This was confirmed this week as Keedz took Justice off of their myspace top friends list…

Some people made a parody of the Stress music video, by Justice. It’s pretty hilarious.

    Pre-Justice, Gaspard Augé as… Microloisir?

Posted on 03 July 2008 by levon

Here’s a rare find. This is a solo track by Gaspard Augé from 2003, recorded prior to forming the group Justice. It’s not that great of a track, but here it is anyway:

  • Microloisir – Back in Your EyesI just wonder if Gaspard is the one singing?
