French house producer Etienne de Crecy has borrowed the concept of the Daft Punk pyramid and introduced a cube-based live setup for his 2008 tour. The geometric figure is on tour and may arrive at a festival near you. There are no dates announced in the US or the UK quite yet, but if you happen to be in Paris you can catch Etienne de Crecy at the Social Club October 25th.

When most think of Daft Punk’s original discography, only their three major studio albums come to mind. In 2006, they released Musique Vol. 1, which featured tracks never before released on their studio albums. Many of the tracks on this compilation capture the true essence of original Daft Punk tracks, and are quite representative of their musical tastes circa Homework album.

The tracks:
Originally released on the Chemical Bros’ Life is Sweet 12″ back in 1995, Daft Punk contributed their own remix of the title track to the record. This track has not been released on any Daft Punk official discography, and was omitted from the Musique Vol. 1 compilation.

British soul singer Gabrielle had her own track Forget About the World remixed by the parisian duo back in 1996. Interestingly enough, a sample of this remix was most recently used in the Alive 2007 live set (track 10) as a lead-up to Prime Time of your Life. Here is the original:

In the late 1990s, German house/techno DJ Ian Pooley and Daft Punk took turns remixing each-others’ tracks. In 1998, Rock the Discoteque EP featured a Daft Punk remix of the Ian Pooley’s track Chord Memory. The track begins with the WDPK-esque voice introduction to the track, funky basslines, and house beats.

Rumor has it once again, Daft Punk is working on some new material. Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo and Thomas Bangalter are currently back in France, working on their next album. It is rumored to be called Aurora Borealis (according to various sources). If that is that case, it sounds like their new material will sound more space-like, unlike Human After All with more “robot-like” sounds. Daft Punk is also known to be a fan of the Australian indie dance rock group Midnight Juggernauts whose style is reflective of this.
Though Daft Punk will release a new album, they will have some changes with their management. Pedro Winter, also known as Busy P, will not be managing Daft Punk anymore, because he will be concentrating more on his record label, Ed Banger Records.
