New Music Out of Paris / March 2010

Posted on 02 March 2010 by shaunt

nightcallep

Our favorite french zombie DJ-producer Kavinsky is back with new original material. Produced by Guy-Manuel of Daft Punk, Nightcall EP is going to be released on Air’s Record Makers label on March 15th. The track features the classic Kavinsky-synth feel and is reminiscent of the sound from Sebastian Tellier’s recent Sexuality album–also produced by Guy-Man. Tracklist consists of four tracks including NightcallPacific Coast Highway, and two remixes of the title track.

From the label’s website: The zombie is striking back ! After months of studio work on his forthcoming album, he & Record Makers have decided to release ‘Nightcall’ as an apéritif. ‘Nightcall’ is the first song Kavinsky provides vocals for, a duet you might say, featuring the zombie and his girlfriend, a.k.a. Lovefoxxx from CSS!

The song was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and mixed by SebastiAN. The remix of this song, by a mysterious Dustin Nguyen, is an outstanding pop song that everyone can enjoy.

On the other side, Kavinsky has produced the fantastic ‘Pacific Coast Highway’, in which we follow a ghostcar on the highway. The remix job is by French avant-garde producer Jackson. His epic 9 minute long version is unmissable. ’Nightcall’ is composed of 4 tracks, representing the sensual, epic and romantic French sound like never before.

We’ve got a low bitrate myspace rip of it for the listening curiosity.

Kavinsky’s not the only one with new material. Off the Ed Banger label, new signee Breakbot makes his release debut on the label with the fresh Baby I’m Yours EP. I gave it a listen and I definitely dig it.

Synthetic Sound describes itBaby I’m Yours is Breakbot’s long-awaited debut EP on Ed Banger Records. In one word, Breakbot’s music could best be described as smooth. Combining disco and electo, the French musician crafts funky beats with retro vocal hooks. Without a doubt, Breakbot fits in perfectly with the rest of the Ed Banger crew, but he sure hasn’t lost his originality or characteristic sound. The EP features two singles: “Baby I’m Yours” with vocals by Irfane and “Make You Mine.” Also included are two fantastic remixes by Siriusmo and LaFunkMob.

“The Crash” — Newly leaked Daft Punk(?) track from Tron 2?

Posted on 28 January 2010 by shaunt

tronlegacy

Update: It appears this is another hoax, as a group called Pilot Priest have confirmed that it’s their track. Hopefully this bullshit should stop, and we’ll get our hands on some real Daft Punk material soon..

Last night we brought you what we thought was new Justice material. Well, tonight we got our hands on a track titled “The Crash” which appears to be from the soundtrack of the upcoming sequal to Tron, for which Daft Punk is putting together the soundtrack. Yet another one for the rumor mill, this track appears to be new production from Daft Punk (which has yet to be confirmed by french robot duo). For your listening curiosity, here it is:

[Fake] New Justice track “Beginning Of The End”

Posted on 27 January 2010 by shaunt

Justice Rex

Update:  According to official sources at Ed Banger Records, Beginning Of The End is a hoax. Along with other music sites/blogs, we received this track via email from a convincing-sounding address “promo@edbangerrecords.com”…  Oddly enough, this track sounds a lot like Justice… give it a listen below.

The French electro duo Justice are making a return with the release of their upcoming single, “Beginning Of The End.” This is the first original track they’ve produced and released since Planisphere, which was originally set to be a composition for the Dior Homme runway last year. Beginning Of The End begins with with the fanfare-like sound used in a few of their remixes (namely, the remix of Klaxons’ As Above So Below), and then switches gears and delivers a healthy dosage of electro beats climaxing to the sound of the signature distorted harpsichord synth first introduced in Planisphere.

Prior to listening, I was a bit skeptical of Justice’s return to production, as it had been quite a while since they’d put something out. Their debut album  is a tough one to follow; anything following would be judged by extremely high standards. However, after a listen, it seems as though they’re on the right track, picking up from where Planisphere left off… Justice is back.. and I bet after listening to this track, I won’t be the only person to be certain of the duo’s epic return to production.

SebastiAn - Threnody

Posted on 04 January 2010 by shaunt

xmas

Our favorite Parisians over at Ed Banger Records have some new material for us. There’s a promo copy of a special compilation of unreleased tracks from artists on the label.

Included on there is a new one from SebastiAn titled Threnody, which proves to be quite a shocker on the record. True fans of SebastiAn’s music may be excited to hear that the track is eleven minutes long. I know I was…. until I listened to it. To tell the truth I feel strangely ambivalent about it. The reason being, there is a TEN MINUTE crescendo buildup of noise before the actual music begins. It’s not until the 11:20 that the track takes a turn and becomes a filthy, glitchy, distored, heavy-beat-driven banger that we’d expect from SebastiAn. Unfortunately, this only lasts about a minute and a half before you realize it’s over.

I don’t know what to think of it. All I can say is that it makes sense that they put Threnody on their “unreleased” compilation rather than on a real cataloged EP. Don’t just take my word for it. Give it a listen:

My fingers are crossed for some proper remixes to soon appear in the blogosphere…

Off topic/on a side note: Photos from Saturday’s house party hosted by the good people of YouTellConcerts will be up tomorrow. It was a blast. Stay tuned.

A Minute with Zombie Nation

Posted on 05 November 2009 by admin

We got a chance to speak to Zombie Nation Halloween night.

zombie nation

He was scheduled to perform at the massive Hard Haunted Mansion event in Los Angeles. We had a couple questions lined up which the curious Zombie Nation fan would find interesting, especially questions about his side project tag-team with Tiga known as ZZT. ZZT has brought us such tracks Lower State of Consciousness (which Justice has remixed), as well as the hugely popular The Worm.

levon & zombie nation

One big mystery has always been history behind the ZZT name. As disappointing as it may sound, there’s no funky story behind it. ZZT is simply a combination of the first letters Z of Zombie Nation and T of Tiga. The extra Z is simply there because it sounds good, and doesn’t really stand for anything…. but we still dig the name.

Second, we asked about upcoming tracks. Tiga has been pushing for a ZZT LP sometime in the near future for the Turbo label. In the meantime though, they’ve still been working on new tracks. As a matter of fact, they have two tracks which were nearly completed last week. Around the time that this is published, Zombie Nation and Tiga should be in Montreal mastering the two new ZZT tracks.

Zombie Nation dropped the new tracks this Halloween night. The tracks are not yet completed, but the general gist of it can be seen in the video. Click it below.
